Work Orders

1 min read

Work orders in Nexus are the same work orders in your Fishbowl database. Inventory used or built here is updated in Fishbowl right away.

The Work Orders module is where users will carry out and finish the work on the shop floor. Each work order is part of a manufacture order.

The Work Orders module can be found under the “Manufacturing” section on the home page or in the sidebar.

When users open the module, they will see a list of their work orders. Users can search by work order number or filter by status.

Work Order Types #

  • Standard: used for most regular manufacturing jobs. It requires an existing BOM.
  • Reverse: undoes a build by running a BOM’s steps backward.
  • Disassemble: takes apart something built by an existing work order.
  • Repair: fixes a broken item.
  • Custom: lets users make changes as they go, such as combining repair and manufacturing in one order.

Completing a Work Order #

Completing a work order takes two steps: first the raw materials are picked, then the work order is started and finished.

Picking the raw materials

Open the Picks module and select the work order’s pick.

For each line item, choose the Source location the raw materials are coming from. If the part is tracked, also select the Serial Number and Lot Number.

  • If any required tracking is missing, Nexus will show a red message under the line.

Once every line is filled in, select Save. The pick will change to Finished.

  • A finished pick can’t be edited in Nexus. To change it, void the pick in the Fishbowl Client.

Starting and finishing the work order

Next, open the Work Orders module and select the work order. Its page shows the work order info, such as the BOM, location and who it is assigned to, along with its quantities and dates.

Select Start at the top right. The work order’s status will change to Started.

When the work is done, select Finish work order. A pop-up will open where users enter the quantity produced for each finished good and choose the Destination location where it will be stocked.

Select Finish work order in the pop-up to complete it. The status will change to Fulfilled, and the finished goods will be added to inventory.

Using the Assistant #

Users can also ask the assistant about work orders, for example:

  • “Which work orders are in progress right now?”
  • “What’s needed to finish WO 2045-1?”
  • “How many units of B200 did we build last month?”

The assistant only shows data the user already has access to in Fishbowl.
