Bills of materials in Nexus are the same BOMs in your Fishbowl database. Any changes users make here are saved directly to Fishbowl.
The BOMs module is where users will create their bills of materials. A BOM lists everything needed to build a product: the finished good it makes and the raw materials used to make it.
The BOMs module can be found under the “Manufacturing” section on the home page or in the sidebar.
When users open the module, they will see a list of their BOMs. Users can search by BOM number or description.
Creating a BOM #
To create a new BOM, users will select the new BOM option. Enter a number and description for it.
Next, add the finished good the BOM produces, then add each raw material and the quantity needed.
Users can also add instructions for each step of the build.
- BOMs can be used for simple builds, as well as subassemblies and multi-stage production.
- To create a similar BOM quickly, users can duplicate an existing one.
Auto-Create Settings #
Each BOM has a setting that controls when manufacture orders are created for it automatically.
- Never: never creates a manufacture order automatically.
- Short Quantity: creates one for items that are short.
- Order Quantity: creates one for order items that are short.
- Always Create: creates one for all items in the BOM.
- Build To Order: creates one that must be picked by the parent order.
Using the Assistant #
Users can also ask the assistant about their BOMs, for example:
- “What goes into the BOM for product B200?”
- “Do we have enough raw materials to build 50 of B200?”
- “Which BOMs use part CLP-18?”
The assistant only shows data the user already has access to in Fishbowl.
